NB: Details of how to deal with relevant forms are found in Leadership Application Procedure Booklet – last issued 03/03
The retirement age for officers (in force since 1979) is 65. At this point they need to “come out of uniform”, although many continue to be involved with companies as Auxiliaries, or hold District offices such as Vice-President. Brigade does, however, recognise that there may be cases where an officer’s retirement would make it difficult for a company to continue working. In this case, Districts may apply for an extension of service for one or two years.

Frequently Asked Questions from GB Leaders
Why does the GB crest at the bottom of the new banner look smudged?
The design is like this (paintbrush effect), the main crest is at the top and of course there is another in the background. This paintbrush effect matches that on the recruitment cards.
Why do some of the website narratives all jumble on top of themselves? Is this a fault?
No, it is not a fault – it is due to the ‘text size’ selected. To remedy the problem when browsing the website, from the drop-down menu, select: View – Text Size and ensure ‘Medium’ is selected.
Can you remind me about guidelines on carrying the colour and colour party drill?
All guidance relating to carrying the colour and all drill matters is contained in the drill handbook.
This is available from the GB shop. If you order on line via the GB website www.girlsbrigadeew.org.uk, you will need to log into your account.
It is product code 13602 (£1.25)
Or you can phone 0844 800 2848
I have been asked if we can have boys in GB – can we?
Yes – in a word, GB can have ‘Boys in Trust’ if there is no other organisation for boys in the Church and as long as the Church are happy with this.

A male leader should be present and should
Can you email me the GB Crest as I can not copy it from the GBEW Website?
As the GB Crest is a registered logo ® it must be sold and may not be copied and distributed.
CD’s with the GB Crest on are available from the GB Shop for account holders only (i.e. GB Leaders who have been verified) at £4.50 (Product Code 9101)
The integrity of the Crest must be maintained at all times and its use restricted to GB leaders.
This is the main reason that it can not be copied from the GB web site that also has wider implications.
Full details on the use of the Crest may be found on the Companies Franchise Agreement.
How long to companies need to keep accounts, registers, etc?
7 years for accounts and anything which includes a financial transaction.
Registers for ever, insurance claims may be made up to the age of a girls being 18. It may be necessary to prove who was at company n any given night.
Is it OK for leaders to have girls mobile phone no's stored in their phones and to text / ring the girls direct - not the parents? and is it OK for girls to contact leaders on their mobiles?
Seek the permission of the parent to do this. Keep copies of texts sent. Most suitable for older girls, Brigaders and above. Shouldn’t enter into pastoral type dialogues, probably just reminders about meeting etc.
Is it OK to store girls email addresses on computer and to contact them in this way?
As above
How much personal info can be contained in emails ( eg leaders sending full details of girls attending a training weekend to commissioner)?
Names ok , but do not send addresses by email. Use the Blind copy facility to protect others email addresses and then send to yourself. Again keep a copy of what has been sent/ received
Can we sell CD/DVD of photos/ video clips of events to people that attended those events, having already gained permission to take photos ( when I say sell - charge for the amount it costs to produce - no profit)?
Ok to do this as you have parental permission. , make sure use of the GB Crest comes from the official version supplied by GBCO (available from GB Shop - CPO)
Should accidents which occur during GB meeting times be recorded in the Church’s accident book, or should a company keep separate records?
As always, the Company should follow which ever practice the Church requests. Using a duplicate copy accident book, such as an HSMO book, does give an opportunity to ensure that parents are given full details of what happened (in case they are not collected by parents), whilst ensuring that a copy is still available in the company.
Page 13 of Life to the Full states that a man should not be left on their own with girls, we don’t say that for females – why?
The handbook was reviewed by our solicitors before issue and they had no issue with this from an equality point of view, however at the next reprint, this will be updated.
