team games

Scissors, Paper Stone
Divide into 2 teams (any number, preferably 8-15 in each team).  Have the two teams line up behind a line. Approx 5m away, draw another line.
When game starts, both the first player in each team will run to the line where they will meet each other.  When they meet each other, they will play scissors, paper, stone.  The loser stays where they are, whilst the winner runs back to their team and sends the second player up. The second player then plays scissors, paper, stone with the loser from the first game who is waiting by the line..

Play continues and every time a player wins they run back to they team sending up the next player. The winning team is the team that gets through its entire players first.

Frisbee Football
Divide into 2 teams. Make two goals at each end of the pitch. Then play Frisbee football, the same as Football but using a Frisbee instead. It’s a good idea before the game starts to set a rule stating there must be two passes made, from centre, before goal can be scored.

Instant ID
Just for a laugh…
Divide group into two teams. Have two tallish people hold a large, thick blanket up like curtain. Have a person from each team stand facing each other with the blanket between them , then quickly drop the blanket. First one to correctly say the other person's name earns a point for their team. Be prepared for some interesting reactions.

Under and Over
Similar to the traditional game where a ball is passed under legs and over heads of girls in a team, except this time, girl number one holds on to the end of a toilet roll and the roll goes under and over. The winners are the first team to get the roll from the front to the back of the team and back again. Any breaks in the paper means – start again.

Oranges
You will need: An orange per team and a couple of spares.
In teams, pass an orange from the front team member to the back, as ever, the back person runs to the front and this continues, until number 1 is back at the front. The tricky bit is that the orange is passed from person to person, under the chin- no hands. You could pass from between the feet, like a penguin.

Bean Bags
You will need: 5 bean bags for 3 teams
(or 2 more than the number of teams you are using)
Place the bean bags in the middle of the hall floor.
Each team lines up behind a chair placed around the edge of the room (spread these evenly and equi-distance from the bean bags.)
Each member of the team is given a number 1, 2 3, etc.
The leader shouts a number and that person from each team runs to the middle and takes a bean bag, runs back and places it on their team chair.
Winner is the first team to get three bean bags on their chair.
When there are no bean bags left in the middle, players can ‘steal’ from another teams chair.
Rules include: Bean bags can not be thrown, only hold 1 bean bag at a time and be careful of ‘rough play’. No snatching from other players hands.

Star Game
Divide into any number of equal teams (at least 3) each team standing in line, legs apart facing the middle of the room where the object is placed. (The teams may then resemble a star).
Number each member of the team from the middle outwards so that all the 1’s are nearest the centre. When a persons’ number is called out they have to leave their position, run around the outside of the star to the back of their team where then have to tunnel/craw through their team members legs to reach the ball/object first

Alphabet Game
Each team has a sheet of paper, decide on a theme ie colours, flowers, towns etc…
Against each letter of the alphabet teams should find an example of the chosen theme which starts with that letter.
2 points for a unique suggestion and only 1 point if more than 1 team have suggested that item. Winner is the team with the most points.

Hot potato
What do I need?
Balls, beanbags, yarn balls and so on — ‘potatoes’.

What do we do?
The aim of the game is to practice throwing by tossing the ‘potatoes’ around the circle.
1. Form a circle of girls. They should stand three to four arms’ lengths apart.
2. Pass one ‘potato’ around the circle using the underhand throw.
3. See how many times you can throw and catch the ‘potato’ around the circle without dropping it.

Try to increase the speed with which the ‘potato’ is tossed around the circle. Increase the size of the circle. Change the direction the ‘potato’ is tossed.
or
Decrease the size of the circle. Increase the size of the ball.
or
Increase the number of balls used or use a variety of balls.

In Teams
1. Compete with another group to see how many times your group can toss and catch the potato around the circle without dropping it.
2. Compete with the other group(s) to see who finishes first. Introduce more potatoes to be tossed around the circle consecutively. The team that tosses the most potatoes without dropping them wins.

Noughts & Crosses
(or Hearts and squiggles – feminine version)
Copy sheet onto card aim for 6 of each
Set out 9 chairs (3 x 3 pattern) and players are 0’s or X’s
Could make this into a more thoughtful game by having a quiz with a winning answer
Allowing a 0 or X to be placed on the chairs.
Usual rules apply 3 in a row wins!
